And Then It Was September...Almost

So, it's been 3 months since the last post, so this will be short & sweet to get the ball rolling again! Just a few pic's of the window that I'm going to pull down (hopefully Tuesday) to make way for the new one:

and a close-up of the birthday theme (in honor of our 9th birthday in July! and Damond's birthday in August! and any other birthdays!):

More Sin....

Okay, now for more sin-o-pride! Here's a little elephant guy made for our nephew, Jay. Some of the fabrics will be on the quilt I'll hopefully finish before he starts driving.

And soon there'll be another set of pics loaded onto this posting....and then that's it for the sin for a while!
Craft on, my friends!

Sin Of Pride (part 1)

So, this is the story about how I have a few things to share, a.k.a., "sin of pride". These pictures are of a quilt I made last year for a friend's new sweet baby, Nico. It's one of the first "real" quilts I've made; It's the first time I used batting & followed a pattern! I'm not keen on following directions & have issues with finishing projects, so this was an excellent exercise in patience & determination! (as are the 2 others I've finished/started)

The layers involved:

Detail of the fabrics used for the quilt top. It's hard to tell from this pic, but the brown is supposed to replicate coffee swirling, but to me, it looks like woodgrain:

More to come......N.

For Art's Sake!

So, the question of the day is.... why in the world don't all construction companies/developers hire artists to decorate their doggone ever-present wooden barriers?? They could even let them do it for free, for cryin' out loud! Look at this example of what could be.

On 3rd Street, between Smith & Hoyt (our old stomping grounds!), there's some new construction going up (of course). But, the difference is in the pudding, you know. These people chose to beautify what could be yet another ugly-a. boarded up jumble as a pre-curser to yet another ugly-a. bricked up jumble. Go team! How great is this artwork!!

... on the right side

Do go see it before it comes down - there's actually much more to see than what we have here!

Pinch Me, I Think I'm Dreaming!

The other day I went to the Museum of Arts & Design ( to see Pricked: Extreme Embroidery, and let me tell you, it was one of the more inspiring shows I've seen in a while. A collection of women & men using embroidery in traditional & non-traditional ways to convey their ideas in all sorts of ways - an amazing stream of consciousness embroidery collage, a kind of "thread fusion" of Bush with Osama, a banner of embroidered handkerchiefs, beautifully rendered "memories" on found furniture upholstery, and one of my favorites, Andrea Dezso's wall of separately framed embroidered pieces. Each panel tells a belief her mother held - some sad, some humorous, some disturbing. Her style is close to my heart, I have to say:

Lordy! Do go see this doggone show!! Until April 27, 2008
